Mangaluru: In a tough battle against Kankanady Knight Riders (KKR), Mangaluru Central team Maestro Titans chased the highest score in Mangalore Premier League 2016 set by the former and won the game at the last but second delivery. KKR won the toss and decided to take the first innings by batting and scored an exorbitant 191 runs in 20 overs.
Maestro Titans took up the challenge and beat the score by the exact number of runs needed to win the game after Rajat Hegde smashed the fifth delivery of the final over to hit a six. The first innings of the match played by KKR saw a great and consistent run rate throughout the game with a loss of four wickets.
The second innings however was quite eventful and kept the viewers at the edge of their seats when Maestro Titans required 26 runs from 12 deliveries after losing two wickets on the 18th over. Some Maestro Titans supporters might have lost hope about them winning when they needed 17 runs from the final over, but Rajat took the responsibility of bulldozing the final over to victory.
Despite having a minor sprain on his right wrist as the ball hit his hand unintentionally, the first delivery of the last over was smashed by Rajat to score a sixer, two doubles in the next three balls and a decisive sixer of the match on the fifth delivery. It seemed like heaven descended on Maestro Titans at the fag end of the game. The team rushed to the batsmen and hugged them to rejoice their unexpected win.
The ‘Man of the Match’ title was won by Maestro Titans team skipper Akshay Ballal for his score of 69 runs for the team. In a humble gesture from Akshay, he called for Rajat to accept the ‘Man of the Match’ to recognize his appreciation to the man who helped win the match when all hopes were lost.
Akshay said that team Kankanady Knight Riders played really well in their innings and scored the highest runs in MPL 2016 history. He also congratulated team KKR for their effective batting and fielding as well.
