Mangaluru: Minister for Large and Medium Industries Murugesh Nirani launched the Kaun Banega Udyamapati contest (KBU) – 2021 on Friday September 3 at NITTE University through online platform.

Speaking at the event, he said, “we are all aware that Karnataka has most wonderful & vibrant ecosystem for promotion and nurturing of startups. Both State & Central Governments have come-out with start-up friendly policies. With the improvement in Global Innovation Index, India now ranks 48th position globally.”

Nirani said that even though the sudden outbreak of Covid has made digital and social fistancing an essential part of our daily life, the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that we are prepared well to face the challenge and threat posed by the growing pandemic of the Corona Virus.

Speaking more about KBU, he said, “AIC-Nitte Incubation Centre in association with Karnataka Bank Limited (KBL) is organising Kaun Banega Udayamapati Contest (KBU) to provide a platform for startups to grow at the regional level & to contribute towards Make in India, Startup India & Atmanirbhar Bharat. It is nice to learn that Kaun Banega Udyamapati (KBU) contest is designed to promote entrepreneurship among young men & women by identifying & recognising ideas & talent that can create tomorrow’s businesses & provide a platform for students to bring forward their innovative ideas & interact with the corporate sector.”

He added that this event for Coastal Karnataka will be done as a pilot initiative. “I am happy to announce that the Government of Karnataka will support a State-level Kaun Banega Udyamapati contest for the benefit of young and budding entrepreneurs of the whole State,” he said.

The government will extend all support to take up this programme by this expert KBU team to design and implement the programme at the State-level, he added.

Nirani congratulated the KBU team and also thanked the Nitte-University, AIC Nitte, Karnataka Bank & New Mangaluru Port Trust for supporting this idea.

Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University, M. S. Mahabaleshwara, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Karnataka Bank Limited, Dr. A. Ramana, Chairman, New Mangaluru Port Trust, Dr. Ashok Alur, Director, Centre of Excellence for Farmer Producer Organisations and Chairman of the Organising Committee of Kaun Banega Udyamapati, and Dr. A. P. Achar, Chief Executive Officer, AIC Nitte were present at the event.

Kaun Banega Udyamapati contest (KBU) – 2021

Nitte-KBL Kaun Banega Udyamapati (KBU) contest is designed to promote entrepreneurship amongst people across all ages by identifying ideas and talent that can create tomorrow’s businesses. It also provides a platform for students to bring forward their innovative ideas to help them interact with the corporate and industrial sectors. The Contest is open to business ideas that involve or leverage eco-friendly technology in any sphere of human activity – be it services, agriculture, health, energy or education, to name a few possibilities.

Who can join KBU?

  1. The KBU seeks innovative ideas from individuals, research teams, entrepreneurs and early/idea stage startups for new products, processes and services.
  2. Any person below the age of 40 years originally belonging from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada & Uttara Kannada Districts intending to venture into the exciting field of entrepreneurship can participate in KBU.

Reward for the Participants:

  1. a) Every Participant will get access to the ‘3 Hour Programme’ with FREE sessions on various topics to enhance their knowledge and expertise. They will also be provided with ‘Participation Certificate’ after the session.
  2. b) Top 100 Shortlisted Applications by Jury Members will get access to the ‘8 Day Programme’ with FREE sessions by Mentors & Industry Experts to help them develop & build ideas for KBU.
  3. c) Top 50 Shortlisted Ideas by Jury Members will be part of Semi Finale of KBU. They will get access to the ‘2 day BootCamp Programme’ offered by AIC Nitte Incubation Centre. The last day of BootCamp will be a Pitch session with Investors and 25 Ideas shortlisted by Investors will join the Finale of KBU.
  4. d) Top 25 shortlisted Ideas by Investors will undergo Orientation & Training session by Grooming Experts, Image & Branding Consultants, Personality Development & Profiling Coach. They will get access to one-on-one mentorship by World Class Experts in the ’10 Day Programme’.
  5. e) Each episode will have one winner out of five participants. Season 1 of KBU is a Pilot Project comprising of five episodes & five winners. They will get exciting rewards and prizes mentioned below.

Reward for the Winners:

  1. a) Cash Prizes: Top five innovative seed capital up to 25 lakhs. Business ideas, which can be commercialised will get seed capital of 25 Lakhs.
  2. b) Incubation Support: Winners will be provided with free Incubation Support for a period of one year to commercialise their business ideas.
  3. c) Mentoring Support: Expert Guidance, Strategic Advice and Mentorship by Industry Experts to the 25 finalists, will be provided
  4. d) Recognition and Publicity: Five winners will also gain mileage from exposure to the corporate/industry and the massive publicity generated through this event for one year.
