Mangaluru: A lady suspected to have fallen victim to flesh trade after she reportedly went missing presented herself at the Haliyal police station on Monday, March 20.Ullal MissingDondi Bai Chimanu Bajari (20), daughter of Babu Chimanu Bajari and a native of Haliyal in Uttara Kannada district was supposed to visit home on the occasion of Holi. However, after she failed to turn up on the said day her family members tried calling her. When they did not receive any response from Dondi they called Suneeta Dulu Bichchakale, a native of Yallapur who acted as an agent in helping secure a job for Dondi Bai. When Suneeta too did not respond to the calls the family eventually filed a missing complaint with the police naming Suneeta as a suspect fearing that she had pushed Dondi Bai into the flesh trade.

With the incident garnering state-wide attention the Ullal police swung into action and tracked the mobile location of the two at Kotekar Madoor. However when the police visited the place the duo had left the house and their location was traced between towers at Udupi and then Goa.

Finally on Monday morning, the duo apprehensive about the attention the case had received presented themselves before the police personnel seeking protection fearing an assault from Dondi’s family. In their statement to the police they mentioned that they were working for Kaiko fish mill at Ullal and were residing at a rented house at Madoor. Dondi had reportedly not visited her house since she feared that her family would pressurize her to get married. It was due to the media attention the case got that they decided to produce themselves before the police, they said.

In view of this incident, a public meeting has been called for on March 25 which will seek to make it mandatory for women in the area to register with authorities in case they will be visiting other area for work purposes.
