Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress president Mithun Rai launched an online campaign to rename the Mangaluru International Airport after Koti and Chennaya.

For a while now, residents of the coastal region of Karnataka have been voicing their opinion on social media that the airport should be named after the twin heroes of Tulunadu.

Seconding this opinion, Congress leader Mithun Rai took to Twitter through his handle @TheMithunRai writing, “Mr @gautam_adani, since you are the decision making authority now for the Mangaluru International Airport, instead of changing to Adani Airports, we the citizens of Mangaluru humbly request you to change it to KOTI CHENNAYA International Airport. #AdaniTakesOverMangaluruAirport (SIC).”

The tweet has received mixed responses. While some backed Rai’s opinion, others demanded that the airport be named “Tulunadu International Airport” or “Mangaladevi International Airport”.

DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla, however, is of the opinion that it is now futile to raise the demand to name the airport after the legendary heroes as “the airport has already been handed over to Adani Group for 50 years”. There is no point in raising a demand now to rename the airport after either Koti– Chennaya or their mother Deyi Baidethi or social worker Kudmul Ranga Rao, he added.
