JRLOBO1“Crematoriums need to be upgraded and well maintained”

Lobo went on to say that crematoriums in the city need to be upgraded and well maintained. He said “Crematoriums have their own value in Hindu religion. They are sacred places. Hence they should be well maintained. We have visited the crematoriums and there are no basic facilities like roads. Rs 70 lakh has been sanctioned and donors have come forward to join hands with us for their development”.

He said that, of the three crematoriums under the MCC, while the Shaktinagar burial ground is well maintained, a tender for the Boloor electrical crematorium work is being processed and work order will be issued on Monday.  He also announced that a  blue print for the Nandigudda crematorium will be prepared at the earliest in consultation with the public.

He added, “While Muslims and Christians are maintaining their burial grounds in their respective areas, crematoriums of Hindus need to be developed. If needed we will try to get grants from state government and wherever there are no crematoriums, sites for the same will be identified”

Reporters present questioned the practice of giving unidentified bodies to medical colleges based on a recent claim by the Human Rights Federation.  Lobo, however, clarified there is an order from the state government on the same.  He asserted that for medical science to develop, it is necessary that we give the bodies to medicos. Otherwise how will the students study? he asked. He said that the MCC will hold discussions with Wenlock hospital on providing a decent burial to the dead”, he said.

Kadri Ground and other developmental works

While speaking about other developmental works, he said that the Kadri Ground will come up soon, as the work is currently being undertaken. “It is a dream project of Corporator Ashok. It will be used to play cricket and other sports as well as for public functions”, he said. The MLA also said that the renovation work of the Town hall will be completed in the month of November and inauguration will be held on Children’s day.
