Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has been winning hearts of people through his pro-people work and this time the MLA has struck a chord with the Tuluvas by standing up for the status that a rich Dravidian language like Tulu deserves.
Though scholars say that Tulu has a lipi/script of its own, not many know about the same as it is not in use. Even to this day Tulu is written using Kannada script. However, the MLA took to his Facebook page and Twitter handle and has been posting lessons on Tulu lipi every week, which has been lauded by all.

Over the last four weeks, the MLA has been posting pictures of alphabets in Tulu. Though the MLA announced the initiative on October 26 as part of Deepavali, he started posting the Tulu lipi posts from November 2. “I will personally try in all ways to get it recognized globally. #TuluScript #Tulu,” his post reads.

The fight to include Tulu language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution has been going on since a very long time, but the struggle has not yielded any result. However, the MLA’s move of spreading the fragrance of Tulu language in his own small way has garnered a lot of positive response.
Tulu is one of the Dravidian languages of India. According to the 2011 census, 1.85 million people from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod districts speak Tulu.
