Mangaluru: To mark the third edition of Diwali celebration, MLC Ivan D’Souza will be organising `Goodu Deppa` ( Basket lamp) competition for the public, speech competition for the students of PUC and degree college and drawing competition for primary schools students at Town Hall on November 6.
Addressing the reporters at his office in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday, October 23, Ivan said the competitions of `Goodu Deepa` will be held in two categories-traditional and modern. The winners and runners-up will be provided cash prizes. Supportive prizes will also be provided to the contestants. The topic for the speech competition would be `Diwali celebration and its importance in uniting the public` and the topic for the drawing competition also will be `Diwali Celebration.` While the speech and drawing competition will be held at around 5 PM on November 6, the `goodu deepa` competition will be held at around 6 PM. As part of the Diwali celebration `All religion Souharda Sangama` programme will be organised on the same day at around 5.30 PM which will be inaugurated by Minister for Urban and Housing U T Khader. “Meanwhile, a book comprising the details about the development works which are undertaken during the four years of my MLC period, will be released by the chief priest of Kateel temple Anantha Padmanabha Asranna. Minister for Child and Women Welfare Dr. Jayamala, former minister B Ramanatha Rai, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel among others will participate in the programme”, he informed.
