M’luru: Assault on policemen, three accused held

Mangaluru: Two policemen, who had gone on night beat duty at Chilimbigudde under Urwa Police Station limits of the City, were attacked and injured by a group of people late night on Sunday June 19. Three persons have been arrested by the Urwa Police in connection with the case.

The arrested have been identified as Durgesh, Prajvith and Rakshith, all residents of Chilimbigudde. Police informed that the accused were Sri Rama Sene activists. Police personnel Venkatesh and Dhananjay were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at Wenlock District Hospital.

On Sunday at around 1.30 am, the Urwa Police Station personnel were patrolling at Chilimbigudde limits. At the time, a group of eight youth belonging to an organisation were seen chatting on the roadside while drinking alcohol. The police inquired the youth and in turn the group of drunken youth allegedly assaulted the policemen. One of them allegedly tried to ride a bike on the policemen too. The gang then fled from the scene.

The Police has succeeded in arresting three accused in connection with the incident. The accused were produced before the court which has remanded them to judicial custody.
