Mangaluru: City Library Authority of Mangaluru envisions setting up of digital libraries at Surathkal and Kavoor in the City.
Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Premanand Shetty, also Authority Chairman has said in a meeting that MCC has mooted the proposal to set up digital libraries at Surathkal and Kavoor. While one digital library will be opened in the MCC Zonal Office building at Surathkal, the other has been planned in MCC’s Market Complex at Kavoor.
A library will also come up in the U. Srinivas Mallya Layout in the City. Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath has sanctioned Rs. 12 lakh under Special Finance Grants (SFC) for the project, and the Authority will spend another Rs. 20 lakh.
A library building will also be constructed through the Mangaluru Smart City Limited at Ashok Nagar. A library building is also under construction at Mangaluru City Central Library at Bavutagudde. The first phase of construction works has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 98 lakh. Dakshina Kannada Nirmiti Kendra has submitted an action plan witth Rs 1.95 Crore for the project’s final phase, Mayor added.
