Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerates organised a `Run for Unity’ for the first time, here on Monday, October 31 as part of National Unity Day, which also commemorates the birth anniversary of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
M. Chandra Shekar, Police Commissioner, Mangaluru City was the Chief Guest who in his address stated that this was an opportunity to demonstrate our strength in building national unity and impressed upon everyone to follow the principle of `all for one and one for all.
Dr. M. Subramanyam, Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax highlighted the importance of National Unity Day for a pluralistic country like India whose essence is “unity in diversity”. The Commissioner administered the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” pledge to all the participants. The run for unity was flagged off by the Police Commissioner. More than 200 participants from various offices of the Central Board of Excise and Customs and their families, students of Mangala Atheletics Club, members of the Customs Brokers and others representing the cross-sections of society of Mangaluru joined in the Unity Run.
