Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police have finally arrested two persons in connection with the provocative graffiti that was found scribbled on walls in two parts of the city.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar informed that the arrested accused are identified as Mohammad Shaarik and Maz Munir Ahmed, both of whom are from Theerthahalli.
“Mohammed Shaarik is a 22-year-old B.Com graduate operating a cloth shop in Theerthahalli. Maz Munir Ahmed is a 21-year-old B.Tech student at a private college in Mangaluru and resides in a rented house near Arya Samaj Road. For the past three months, he has been working at a delivery company,” the commissioner added.
Further, commissioner Vikash added that their motive was found to be a desire to get publicity. “It is learnt that the graffiti on the wall of an old police station near District Court was written nearly three weeks before the one on the wall of the apartment complex on Kambla Road. As the graffiti on old police outpost was in the Arabic language (in English script), it went unnoticed because the people did not understand what was written,” he said.
As their first attempt was not noticed, the duo decided to scribble graffiti on the wall of the apartment complex, this time in the English language, the compol added.
He added that the two youths were arrested based on CCTV footage and other networks.
“The accused will be produced before the court for police custody and further investigations will follow,” Vikash said, adding that the police will investigate if the duo has any connection with other organizations.
