Mangaluru: The team investigating the provocative graffiti case have found possible links to terrorism after discovering video clips and literature of a notorious person who has been linked to a terror outfit.

It is learnt that the police have arrested a third accused in the case, who is a relative of one of the two who were arrested a few days ago. Sadat, the third accused, was taken into custody and interrogated.

Mohammed Shaarik (Sadat’s relative) and Maz Ahammed, natives of Theerthahalli who were the first to be arrested in connection with the provocative graffiti, were also thoroughly interrogated. Mobile phones and a laptop were seized from the two.

As per reports, police also found around 150 books relating to different religions such as Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism etc. in the possession of the accused, apart from contents found on the mobile phones and laptop.

Inflammatory videos of Jamaica’s Sheikh Abdulla Faisal, who has been declared as a global terrorist working for the terrorist outfit ISIS, were also found on the phones that were seized. This has caused the police to suspect that the accused may have links with terrorist organizations and that they are looking for financial support to carry out their acts.

It may be recalled that writings supporting terror outfits- Lashkar-e-Toiba and Taliban were found on the wall of an apartment building in Kambla soon after which additional graffiti in Urdu was found on the walls of an old police station near Circuit House.

According to the police, Maz Munir Ahammed, an engineering student from Theerthahalli, is the mastermind behind the graffiti work and confined himself to a room to draw up the plans. Mohammed Shaarik, according to the police, would execute the plans.

The city police have registered a case against the accused for promoting enmity between communities and causing damage to property.
