Mangaluru: In a tragic incident, a teacher of a private school in the city committed suicide on Tuesday, December 15 night.
The deceased teacher has been identified as Gretta Gonsalves (53).
Confirming the news, a police source said that the teacher committed suicide by jumping into a well on Tuesday night. She is also said to have left behind a suicide note in which she said that she has taken the extreme step due to personal reasons.
According to the source, the teacher wrote that no one was to be blamed for her decision and that everyone connected to her has been nice to her.
Gretta Gonsalves is survived by her husband and two children- a son and a daughter.
News of the incident has shocked and saddened all those who knew the teacher, especially her students and colleagues.
While expressing great shock over the disturbing news, a retired teacher and Gretta Gonsalves’ former colleague told NewsKarnataka that the teacher was an extremely sweet and fun-loving person.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka, a former student said, “Miss Gretta to me was a warm person with a big smile. Her simplicity and humility is what made her special. She would wave out to me anywhere we met. She was a wonderful teacher. It’s hard to believe that she is no more. May the Lord grant her eternal rest.”
She will truly be missed by all those who know her.
