Mangaluru: National Girl Child Day was observed earlier this week by the Centre for Social Concern, the Youth Red Cross, and the Students’ Council of St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru (SAC).
As part of this event, a blood donation portal as well as a volunteer group called ‘We Care’ with a motto to serve the society ‘For and with others,’ was launched.
The blood requirements will be posted under the Red Drop App and also in the web portal. It will help youth in locating persons in need of blood as well as donating blood.
Principal of St. Aloysius College Rev. Fr. Praveen Martis SJ said, “This initiative is done by our own student council in the college. They want to contribute to society. They can help people at any moment using this app. Any student, at anytime and in an emergency, has access to the information. This has been the major goal of the initiative.”
He further said that the people’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. “Students have already begun donating blood, and immediately the information goes to all. Some of them respond quickly and a lot of help is given,” he added.
Director of the Centre for Social Concern and Rector of St. Aloysius Institutions Rev. Fr. Melwin Pinto said, “I had the opportunity to visit all of the units. It is the initiative of the students themselves. I am happy that they have started this blood donation drive. I was also delighted to know that students had stepped forward to take up this initiative. This will help those who require blood at any time. They have an app where people can contact others promptly.”
