Class X Student dies of suicide

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a Class X student, who was in love with a Muslim man, resorted to suicide by hanging herself at her house after being scolded by her family near Kanyana Village under Vittal Police Station Limits.

The family of Sanjeeva, a Scheduled Caste native of Panja in Sullia Taluk, was staying in a rented house behind Kaniyoor Mosque in Kanyana Village. In the morning when her parents went to work as labourers, their daughter Aathmika hanged herself to death.

Aathmika’s father in a complaint at Vittal Station has stated that she was in love with one Sahul Hameed, a resident of Thalekki of Salethur. Thalakki was harassing her to leave home and come with him. When his parents were not at home, he would force her to come with him leaving his family, and also fall in love with him, he has said in his complaint.

It is further learnt that the girl’s parents, who came to know about it, advised and stopped her against falling in love with Hameed, while the girl had informed family that Hameed had asked her die if she did not come with her. Therefore, girl’s father in a complaint has stated that the girl took her life due to Hameed’s abetment. Meanwhile, Sanjeev had warned Hameed and his elder brother after summoning them.

Vittal Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
