Mangaluru: A woman from Vamanjoor who was kept under illegal confinement in Saudi Arabia, returned home on Sunday, thanks to efforts of some Good Samaritans.

Vijaya (44) had gone to Dammam in 2015 hoping to build a better future for herself and her family by working as a domestic maid in the house of a Dammam national. Things remained positive for Vijaya for the first few months when she constantly contacted her family members in Mangaluru. Slowly, future started looking grim. All of a sudden Vijaya went untraceable and her family only hoped that she was alive.

The masters of Vijaya had kept her under illegal confinement, due to which Vijaya had no idea of the perils that her family was faced with. Her husband Balakrishna was constantly facing health issues and financial crisis was threatening the family. With no hopes left, Vijaya’s family contacted Indian Social Forum, which in turn contacted the Indian Foreign Affair Ministry. After pressure from the power corridors, the Dammam government traced Vijaya and got her released.

Vijaya boarded a Jet Airways flight from Dammam to Mangaluru via Mumbai where she was received by the SDPI leaders on behalf of the Indian Social Forum. On arriving, Vijaya said that she was elated to have reached back home, which she had thought was never going to be a reality.
