Mangaluru: Who will abstain from fish if it is available for free? News of scores of sardines being washed ashore drew fish lovers to the Ullal beach. Social media being what it is, the number swelled within an hour of its first sighting!
Locals and fishermen who happened to see this wonderful sight on November 19 morning made the most of it by grabbing as many fish as they could in bags or whatever other storage they could find at the beach.
Interestingly the incident was not a one-time affair as the phenomenon is being witnessed here and also at Mogaveerapatna, Kaiko, Kiliriyanagar and Someshwar seashore for the last few days.
People seem to be enjoying the moment and are not stopping to wonder why it is happening. A few even arrived in their swanky cars to take the fish home!
One explanation offered is that the fish, which usually swim in columns may have been washed ashore by the tides either while trying to escape the fishing nets spread here or after having lost their way. Few others however view this as a bad omen. Either way, the people of this coastal city are having a good time.
