Mangaluru: On his visit to the city, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President and State Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwar inaugurated the new police building in Panambur. He also made a mention about recruiting more police force for the district since it is communally sensitive.

“The Government is ready to recruit more police personnel after a proposal on the same regard was sent to the Home Department from Mangaluru Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police”, Dr. Parameshwar added while he inaugurated the police station and 16 police quarters in Panambur area.

“As many as 19,600 new police persons have already been recruited to the police department. A total of Rs. 1,818 Crore has been allotted for the construction of 11,000 police quarters in the state. In all, 25 patrol cars will be given to Mangaluru police in two months to focus on better patrolling in the city”, he added.

Serving a stern warning to communal miscreants in the city, Parameshwar said, “The Home Department will take care of law and order in the state and the trouble mongers will not be forgiven. Strict action will be taken against those who break communal harmony in the city.”

On the occasion, Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza mentioned about the communal events that took place in the district. He said, “Dakshina Kannada has had many instances of communally inciting speeches and violence. It has been reported that out of the 83 provocative speeches, 78 of them were reported from Dakshina Kannada alone. During the term of BJP from 2008-13, nearly 800 cases of communal violence were reported but after the Congress government took power, there were only 23 incidents of communal violence in the entire state.”

On the same occasion, a group of swimmers from Panambur who helped in recovering the bodies of actors Anil and Uday from Thippagondanahalli Lake were felicitated for their service.
