Mangaluru: MozziQuit inventor Ignatius Orwin Noronha was presented with the Pingara Rajyotsava award at the Town Hall on Tuesday, November 12
Mangalurean Ignatius Noronha is the inventor of MozziQuit, an eco-friendly, non-chemical, central government-recognized and internationally appreciated mosquito killing device.
Conferring the award on the inventor, Mangalore Diocese Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha opined that Pingara has given the award to the most deserving person, as his invention is very effective in preventing mosquito bites.
After receiving the award, Ignatius Noronha thanked the National Institute of Malaria Research for recommending him for the award and Pingara for selecting him to receive the award. “My mother is my inspiration for inventing MozziQuit. As my mother suffered a lot due to filariasis and even at the age of 87 she continues to take anti-filariasis injections, I invented this mosquito killing device,” he said.
It can be noted that the Central Government had recognised Noronha, who invented a manufacturing unit for the mosquito-killing the machine in Mangaluru, and granted him Rs 15 lakhs for the same. The device was tested in gaushalas, public places and houses and this innovation helped him fetch a Limca Book record as well.
Editor of the Pingara newspaper, Raymond D’Cunha welcomed the gathering and Nathalia D’Cunha compered the event.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat state president Harikrishna Punaroor, former Konkani Academy president Roy Castelino, Dr Suresh Negalguli and others were present.
