Multi-religious ‘Christmas Souharda Sambram’ held at Valencia

Mangaluru: To spread love and peace among different religions, St. Vincent Ferrer Church (Valencia), Hebich Church (Gorigudda) and the Christmas Souharda committee (Gorigudda) organised ‘Christmas Sourharda’ on Friday, December 21, near the UBMC School, Gorigudda, Mangaluru.

Bishop of the Mangalore Diocese, Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Swami Ekagamyanandaji of the Ramkrishna Math and head of the Ramkrishna mission, Mangaluru, manager of the Shanthi Prakashana, Bunder, Mangaluru, Mohammed Kunhi were the guests of the event.

The dignitaries inaugurated the programme by cutting a cake.

Hebich Church head, Goldin Bangera welcomed the gathering with the message, “Christmas is the right time to spread joy, peace and harmony.”

Mohammed Kunhi, in his address to the gathering, said, “All are equal in this country. We need to live together and spread love and peace. Everyone should be treated equally and hatred should be wiped out from society.” He the lauded the organisers for making the event possible.

Speaking on the occasion, Swami Ekagamyanandaji said, “This is a special day in my life. After I came to Mangaluru, this is the first time I have got the chance to participate in a Christmas celebration involving other religions.” He then stressed on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda on religion and also of the Ramkrishna mission, which is promoting a cleaner Mangaluru. He also congratulated and thanked the Bishop for taking the iniative in a ‘Green Mangaluru’ and also extended his full support for the same.

In his message to the gathering, the Bishop said, “Everyone should work on building a peaceful, loving and harmoneous society. All should fill their minds with moral values.” He also stressed the importance of living together as one and urged everyone to spread love and maintain peace. He also wished everyone a Merry Christmas in advance

Santa Claus made a thrilling entry and entertained the crowd. The youth of Hebich Church entertained the crowd with some Christmas carols and the kids danced to the tunes. People from the Valencia church performed a skit on the birth of Jesus Christ and sang Christmas carols.

Fr James D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the programme.

Around 700 people of different religions participated in the programme and dinner was served to all those gathered.
