Mangaluru: Prakash L Shetty, a renowned criminal prosecutor practicing in Mumbai, hailing from the prestigious Kadandale Parari family of Moodbidri has been chosen by the NIA as special public prosecutor to represent NIA in Maharashtra. He is one five appointed to argue cases on behalf of the NIA in the state.
The new notification, dated May 25 and signed by Joint Secretary M A Ganapti, discloses the names of 33 public prosecutors who would represent NIA in various courts across the country.
The other public prosecutors who will represent the NIA in Maharashtra are Pradhan Chandamal, Nandkishore Rathore, Sunil Gonsalves, and Avinash Rasal.
Incidentally, Special public prosecutor Rohini Salian, who recently stirred up a controversy by alleging that National Investigation Agency (NIA) had asked her to go slow on accused in 2008 Malegaon blast case in which some Hindu extremists are accused, does not figure in the latest list of prosecutors appointed by NIA.
