Mangaluru: The NITK Tollgate indefinite protesters agitating for over a week, have got a ray of hope as Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has requested the NITK tollgate Virodhi Samiti to resolve the issue and assured of conveying the matter to the District In-Charge Minister and the Chief Secretary to the state government shortly.
Expressing a sigh of relief, Convener of the committee, Muneer Katipalla said that he was pleased with the talks held with the DC.
On the other hand, the protest has entered the ninth day on October 30.
As the protest has achieved support from the leaders across political fraternity, the protesters have questioned the MLA of Mangaluru North, Dr. Y Bharath Shetty, who reportedly, has not met them.
The demand for the closure of the NITK Tollgate is because the National Highway Authority (NHA) has set up another tollgate at Hejamady.
According to Section 8(2) of the National Highway Fee (Determination of rates and collection) Rules, 2008, there should be more than 60 kms of gap between each tollgate.
The protesters demand a merger of both the tollgates.
