New Delhi: Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways organized an event on 25th March 2022, to commemorate the successful seven years of the Sagarmala program. The highlight of the event was showcasing the exemplary performance, the flagship program of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has achieved during the last 7 years.

Union Minister, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the event and launched the Sagarmala mobile app in the presence of Minister of State, pad Naik; Minister of State, Shantanu Thakur; Secretary, Dr Sanjeev Ranjan; Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, D.K. Dist., S. Muniswamy, Member of Parliament, Kolar District and other senior officials and dignitaries. During this event, New Mangalore Port Authority also participated in an exhibition which was organized by the Ministry for Major Ports to showcase their projects under the Sagarmala.

Sagarmala program was launched in March 2015 with the objectives to achieve port modernization & new port development, port connectivity enhancement, port-led industrialization and coastal community development. Nearly 802 projects worth Rs. 5.48 lakh crore under the Sagarmala program targeted to be executed by 2035. 

Under the Sagarmala program NMPA has initiated 03 projects namely; Mechanization of berth No.14 for handling containers & other cargo on a DBFOT basis, the Construction of new Berth no.17 for handling bulk & dry-bulk cargos and the Construction of the Fishing Harbour at Kulai.  

The Construction of a Fishing Harbour is a very important to the project under Sagarmala’s Coastal Community development program & a long pending demand of the fishing community living in the Port vicinity for a dedicated fishing harbour. NMPA had invited tender for the work of construction of breakwater, marine structure with allied civil works, dredging & reclamation for the fishing harbour at Kulai on EPC mode. M/s SAPL GCCC JV, Mangalore quoted the lowest contract price of Rs. 147 crores and qualified for the tender work.

During the commemoration celebration of seven years of Sagarmala on March 25 in Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, Dr A. V. Ramana, Chairperson, NMPA handed over the contract award work order to M/s SAPL GCCC JV, for the Construction of Fisheries Harbour at Kulai in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State, pad Naik; Minister of State, Shantanu Thakur; Secretary, Dr Sanjeev Ranjan; Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, D.K. Dist., S. Muniswamy, Member of Parliament, Kolar District.
