Mangaluru: Officials of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) are investigating the suspected oil spill observed at a beach in Surathkal in the City on Friday May 13.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the colour change is following surfacing of algae from deep waters, said one of the officials. Pollution Control Board officials along with officials from SEZ and MRPL visited the beach. Further, the water samples were collected for analysis and has been sent to the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
A clear picture will emerge after the test results are received, the officials added. However, the locals allege that the colour change is due to oil spill.
