Panambur Beach: Indian Open Surfing-2022 begins

Mangaluru: Indian Open of Surfing-2022 jointly organised by Surfing Federation of India and District Tourism Department at Panambur Beach here in the City began on Friday May 27.

New Mangaluru Port Authority Chairman A. V. Ramana inaugurated the event. Tourism Department Deputy Director Manikya, and Indian Surfing Federation Joint Secretary Gaurav Hegde were present on the occasion.

Over 70 top surfers from across the country are the participants at the 3-day competition. The surfers will compete in two disciplines namely, Surfing and Stand Up Paddling, across different categories which are Male Open, Female Open, Male and Female Groms (U – 16), Male 17+ Surf.

“In such beautiful and serene parts of the state, a sport like Surfing can really help to attract tourists from all over the country and also from abroad,” said Dr Rajendra KV, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Tourism Development Committee, Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada.

Ram Mohan Paranjpe, Vice-President of SFI and host Mantra, said, “We are elated to be back after a long gap with the third edition of IOS and are looking forward to seeing some action on the west coast of India during pre-monsoon swell.”

Karnataka Tourism has come on board with the Indian Open Surfing as the title partners, while Chennai based TT Group are the associate partners. Action Camera majors GoPro, are the Action Partners for the premier surfing competition. The competition is recognised by the International Surfing Association is hosted by Mantra Surf Club, Mangaluru and is part of Karnataka Surfing Festival organised by Karnataka Tourism.
