Ullal: Mangaluru Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza laid the foundation for ten houses being built for the economically backward families as part of the centenary celebration of the Permannur Church. The houses will be built over 47 cents of land donated by philanthropists.

Kick starting the valedictory programmes of the centenary celebration, the Bishop said that the centenary celebration has not been restricted to just one community or sect and this in itself is a great message to the society.

Gulbarga Bishop Dr. Robert Miranda, lauding the work done by the members of the Permannur Church in the field of religion, education and health, said that the church must keep up the good work, continue to serve and become role models for all other churches.

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader said that it was only due to the efforts and service of the Christians that education was accessible in place like Ullal. He said that a sum of Rs 50 lakh has been released to contruct a guest house in St Sebastian Church, Ullal.

Fr J B Saldanha was felicitated during the occasion.

Ullal Town Municipl Council President Hussein Kunhimonu, Mangalore Diocese Vicar General Monsignor Denis Prabhu. Mangalore Diocese Chancellor Henry Sequiera, Kallianpura Rector Fr Stany B Lobo among others were present.
