Mangaluru: Phalguni Traditional Fishermen’s Association organised a protest against Sagar Mala Coastal Berth project here at Bengre on Friday July 9.
The symbolic protest was held by the fishermen with boats. Honorary President of the association Muneer Katipalla said, “Sagar Mala Project is turning the life of fishermen bleak. The project that extends from Karwar to Mangaluru and in its very initial days has proved that occupation of regional fishermen is under threat. In future days it will obtain the potential to snatch away the employment of fishermen who are traditionally into fishing and corporate companies will take over them,” he expressed concern.
After giving a symbolic start to the programme, the traditional fishermen of Bengre and Tannirbavi region along with their the family held placards and voiced against the project through raising slogans sitting in their boats.
Association President Abdul Tayyub was present.
