Photo of candidate to be attached with name for Vidhana Parishad polls

Mangaluru: With the Karnataka Vidhana Parishad elections around the corner, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, who is also the electoral officer for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, informed that the administration is geared up for the polls.

“Formal notification will be issued on December 2 post which the candidates are open to file nominations. Final date for submitting nominations will be December 9. The nominations thus submitted will be reviewed on December 10. December 12 will be the last date to withdraw nominations. Candidates can either approach the Deputy Commissioner or the Assistant Deputy Commissioner from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm excluding Sunday, to file their nominations,” Ibrahim said.

Elections will be held on December 27 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. For the first time, photo of the candidate will be attached on the ballot paper along with his/her name, Ibrahim said. The voters can also chose None of the Above option (NOTA). The votes registered will be counted on December 30, Ibrahim informed.

As many as 6,559 registered voters will cast their franchise. A total of 410 voting booths will be set up in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Criteria to contest

Candidate must be aged 30 or above. He/she must hold a valid voter ID and must furnish documents supporting the same. He/she is required to deposit a sum of Rs 10,000. A candidate from SC/ST background is required to deposit Rs 5,000 and needs to submit caste certificate.
