Mangaluru: The Police department has issued stern guidelines to be followed by reveler and party organisers in the city for New Year celebration.
As per a release from Commissioner of Police S Murugan all the hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts and other places hosting public New Year celebrations would have to be wind up the celebrations by 12.30 am. No special permissions will be available to extend the deadline.
The hotels and restaurants wishing to serve liquor beyond the stipulated time need to get special written permission from the Department of Excise. This is applicable only for functions to be held inside the premises of any establishment.
All the establishments who intend to use loud speakers should get permission on December 31 by 4 pm from city police commissioner’s office after submitting applications.
The release specifically speaks of prohibition on stopping vehicles forcibly on the roads on pretext of wishing people on New Year. The Commissioner of Police has strictly said that women and children should not be disturbed or harassed during the celebration or afterwards or even be greeted against their wish. The Commissionerate has formed a squad for safety of women and children.
Traffic police have engaged teams with specialists to detect the drivers who consume liquor beyond specified limit. Bursting crackers too have been prohibited.
