Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar distributes grocery kits to transgenders

Mangaluru: Mangaluru police commissioner N Shashi Kumar along with DCP (Law and Order) Hariram Shankar, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Vinay A Gaonkar distributed grocery kits to over 80 transgenders in the city on Friday, May 28.

The grocery kits were distributed on the premises of the police commissioner’s office.

After distributing the kits police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The police department, in collaboration with various volunteer organisations, has assisted the poor on 22 other instances through the Samanvaya platform.” The Samanvaya platform has responded to the needs of the poor by distributing food kits, groceries, and medicines, as well as assisting them in securing hospital beds.”

“Samanvaya had launched a helpline number 9480802300 for NRIs. We also received a call from an NRI about the pandemic’s impact on transgender people. Following that, we contacted a donor, Arun Vijayendra Bhat, who agreed to provide 80 transgenders with grocery kits,” he added.

On behalf of transgenders, speaking to the media Arundathi said, “N Shashi Kumar, the police commissioner, has taken a positive step in helping transgender people. It was becoming increasingly impossible to live a normal life in the country because of the pandemic crisis.” She went on to ask the authorities to assist transgender people in the face of the current pandemic”.
