Mangaluru: The police department has sent a proposal to the Road Transport Authority (RTA) to order the owners of fish transporting vehicles against discharge of waste water on road.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakshmi Ganesh disclosed this during the weekly phone-in programme organised at the Police Commissioner’s Office on Friday, May 3. Responding to a complaint by a caller against spilling of waste water on the road by fish carriers, Lakshmi Ganesh said that a meeting of such truck owners, officials of RTA and fisheries department, had been convened.
In the meeting, it was decided that the truck should install a separate tank with a storage capacity of 50 litres per one tonne of fresh fish. Once the RTA issues the order, the police department would file cases against the violating lorry owners, he added.
If a fish carrier vehicle spills waste water on road, Rs 5000 would be slapped as penalty. If the same truck repeats the offence, then its permit would be cancelled, he said.
