Police detain Hindu Mahasabha activists at Kadri Park

Mangaluru: As many as four saffron activists belonging to Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha were reportedly detained by Mangaluru East police, for allegedly contemplating moral policing on Saturday, here at Kadri Park in the city.

Earlier, Swami Pranavananda, president of the State unit of the Hindu Mahasabha had proclaimed not to celebrate ‘Valentine’s Day’ – claiming it was a ‘western culture’.

Meanwhile, one of the members of Hindu Mahasabha confirmed that their activists were detained by the police.

However, S. Murugan, City Police Commissioner said the police must have detained few indulging in anti social elements. “We have not arrested anyone and there was no moral policing at Kadri Park”, he slated.

Sources in the Mangaluru East Police station confirmed their detention. “We noticed few activists wandering in the park. As a precautionery measures, we detained them. They will be made to sit in the station the entire day”, he added.
