Mangaluru: Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha member B K Hariprasad has alleged that the death of two innocent people by police firing was politically motivated murder and that it was done at the behest of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing the reporters here on Tuesday, December 24, Hariprasad said, “As Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha was unable to manage the situation, he and the police officials, who caused the death of two innocent people, must be suspended from duty immediately.”
Hariprasad said that B S Yediyurappa was a weak Chief Minister and was unable to take action against those who created communal violence. Even though the CM asked the police not to lathi-charge the protesters, they did not pay heed to his words and instead resorted firing and killed two innocent people,” he said.
When asked about the video footage of stone pelters that was released by the police department, Hariprasad said it was edited video footage and that the police department was in a bid to cover up their mistakes. “Even though the police claimed that the mob tried to attack and barge into the police station, nothing happened to the station building. I have visited the police station and observed that not a single police vehicle was damaged during the incident,” he said.
NRC is a communal identification register
Meanwhile, Hariprasad termed the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as a communal identification register. “Those who are born in India need not furnish any documents and don’t need any certificate,” he stressed.
Congress leaders B Ibrahim, Abdul Rauf, Shahul Hameed, P V Mohan, Naveen D’Souza and others were present.
