Mangaluru: The police, on Sunday, arrested a person for allegedly spreading communal hatred on social media in Mangaluru.
The arrested accused has been identified as Zakir Ullal.
He was arrested for allegedly spreading communally sensitive messages on various WhatsApp groups.
Taking to Twitter about the incident, Mangaluru city Commissioner of Police P S Harsha explained that the accused was arrested based on evidence gathered from his phone.
“He was questioned for sending hate messages on WhatsApp groups. His mobile phone was examined and he was arrested based on the incriminating evidence recovered,” ANI quoted the compol as saying.
He added that the police have a zero-tolerance policy towards anyone spreading communal hatred on social media.
The police have registered a case against the arrested accused in this regard.
