Kasaragod: The Vidyanagar police seized a lorry illegally transporting sand in tar barrels on October 26.
The lorry bearing Karnataka registration heading from Mangaluru to Kannur was intercepted by cops on suspicion near Poinachi.
During inspection they found many tar barrels filled with sand. The lorry driver Samsheer (38), resident of Katipalla was taken into custody by the police.
Police handed over the seized truck and sand to department of Mines and Geology.
Two days ago, the police seized two trucks transporting sand instead of fish by hoodwinking authorities.
Sand mafia has been very active in the coastal region ,transporting sand illegally to Kerala where demand and prices are high.
