Mangaluru: Taking a serious note on the vehicles which ferry school children beyond their permitted capacity, the police department has asked the drivers not to violate the guidelines and cautioned them of stringent action against flouting the rule.
The issue was raised during a weekly phone-in-programme organised at the Police Commissioner’s office on Friday, October 26. Responding to a complaint by a woman about a school van ferrying more than 24 students, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth assured of conducting an inspection in this regard soon and taking strict action against such violators.
Meanwhile, another caller complained of the dilapidated condition of Gurupur bridge and requested that her complaint be forwarded to the department concerned to ensure that no any untoward incidents takes place due to this. The caller also shed light on the pathetic condition of the stretch between Edapadavu and Mangaluru. DCP Uma Prashanth assured the caller that police department would bring the issue the notice of district administration to facilitate immediate measures in this regard.
Complaints also poured in pertaining to parking of vehicles in No Parking area, not issuing bus tickets to the passengers, encroachment of footpaths by the street vendors among others, to which the police assured of immediate action.
Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association President Dilraj Alva, Deputy Commissioner of Police ( Law and Order) Hanumantharaya, ACP Manjunath Shetty, Inspectors Shiva Prakash, Amanullah, Sub Inspector Kamala, Mohan Kottary, ASI Yusuf and Head Constable Purushotham among others were present.
