Mangaluru: In the wake of the Police department getting headway in the murder case of Bajrang Dal activist Prashanth Poojary, Dakshina Kannada district unit of the BJP has called off the protest that was scheduled to be held in Mangaluru on Tuesday, October 20.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan in a press meet on Sunday, October 18, had revealed the identities of the four accused arrested in the case and had urged the BJP to call off the protest stating that the department will solve the mystery soon.

Addressing a press meet in the city on Monday, October 19, District President of BJP Pratap Simha Nayak announced that respecting the call of the Police Commissioner and adhering to the directions of the BJP state High Command, they have decided to withdraw the protest.

Slamming the Congress government, Nayak said that the local MLA has so far, not even shown the courtesy to visit Prashanth’s house and console his family. Further speaking, he questioned the government’s ‘discriminating’ policy in offering compensation. “The Congress government in the state offered Rs 10 lakh to the family of Kabir who was killed in an encounter at Sringeri in a cattle trafficking case. Why hasn’t it announced compensation to Prashanth who was a social activist?” he questioned.

He called on the Police Department in the district to function freely without bogging down to political pressure and offered his unconditional support.
