Mangaluru: Animal activist and founder of Mr. Rescuer Tauseef Ahmed recently launched Project Suraksha, an initiative to distribute animal first-aid kits to all police stations in the City. The first kit was handed over to City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar in his office on last Friday April 1.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka Tauseef said, the project is dedicated to the Mangaluru Police Department. He said that when the police are informed about an animal cruelty case, they are always cooperative and kind enough to help. “When you visit a police station, you will notice that the officers feed dogs, cats, and even cows. Often, when you think about police officers, you usually imagine them as tough and strict individuals. They do, however, have a special fondness for animals,” he remarked.
He further said, “I have seen many animals fall ill, and these cops are forced to take them to the hospital. I thought we will give them a first-aid kit for minor issues like itchy skin, minor accidents, wounds, and so on. If these go unattended it will create bigger problems. That is why this initiative was started in the first place.”
Tauseef mentioned that when he met Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar, he appreciated the initiative and encouraged him to proceed. “The kit contains two different sets of first-aid supplies, one for the humans and the other for the animals. Antiseptic creams, sprays, bandages, tapes, and other items are included in the pack. We began distributing the kits from Commissioner’s office, and then moved on to other places,” he expressed.
The word ‘Suraksha’ means ‘protection’ in Kannada. “Police are the protectors of the society. Keeping them in mind, the project was named Suraksha,” he added.
