Mangaluru: Brig Ranjit Alva took over the responsibility of commanding the Independent Mountain Brigade in the Ladakh border. This is the first time that someone from Dakshina Kannada has been given this responsibility and Mangaluru is proud of its brave son who will be commanding over the sensitive and tough terrain of Eastern Ladakh facing the people’s Liberation Army of China.
“He has taken command when the burning issues between India and China is at its peak,” said RtN Vikram Datta, ex-servicemen and president of ex-servicemen’s welfare association. This is a very unique achievement at a time when hardly anyone is ready to join the force, he added. Datta said that he hopes more people find inspiration from this.
Brig Ranjit Alva took over the command when the situation had become tense there. He shouldered the responsibilities admirably and due to deft handling, the situation has improved considerably.
Brig Ranjit Alva is the son of (late) Col Ramnath Alva and both father and son had the distinction of commissioning and commanding the same Punjab Regiment. His father and mother Nalini Alva hail from a reputed Bunt Family from Bail Kolpe & Mood Kare Guthu respectively.
