Ragging: M’luru police arrests six nursing students

Mangaluru: Six students from a private nursing college in the city were arrested by Mangaluru city police on Friday July 16 for allegedly ragging junior student.

Shreelal, Shahid, Amjad, Juraij, Hussain, and Lims, all 20 years old, are among the arrested.

According to the complaint, the accusers had dinner at the Fil Fil restaurant in Falnir on July 14 around 8 pm. Accused Shreelal, who is also their senior in college, abused the victims while they were eating their meal. He is accused of using bad language and making the remark that ‘juniors should respect the seniors.’

The accused Shreelal, Shahid, Amjad, Juraij, Hussain, and Lims barged into the victims’ flat at 10.30 am with deadly weapons and resorted to ragging. The six accused also assaulted the complainants, threatening to kill them if the victims did not lower their heads when they saw the seniors.

The accused has been charged under sections 143, 147, 148, 448, 323, 324, 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and section 116 of the Karnataka Education Act.
