Mangaluru: Demanding sanctioning of housing sites and title deeds to all poor landless families residing on government lands, the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) staged a protest/Jail Bharao in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday November 18.
Sangha District President K R Shriyan said that their pleas over the last several years have fallen on deaf years and the poor residing on government lands since several years have failed to get any solace.
While stating that the landless have been deprived of rights over the government lands which they are occupying, only due to lack of knowledge, he asserted that centre’s pro-industrial policies are compelling farmers to end lives.
Alleged that the unregistered lands which should go to the landless families are conveniently being given away by the government to industrialists and entrepreneurs, he opined that ceiling on land holding must be brought in like Left ruled state Kerala so that excess land could be confiscated by the government and distributed among the poor.
When the Sangha members tried to picket the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the police arrested and released them later.
Yadava Shetty district secretary of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS), Sunil Kumar Bajal of CITU and other members of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha were present during the protest.
