Mangalore, Apr 17: Corporation Bank organized customers meet with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor Dr K C Chakravarti at Millennium Building, Pandeshwar, here on Tuesday April 16.
‘I am happy to interact with customers in Mangalore that is the cradle of banking in the nation,’ said Chakravarti. The unsatisfied customers are likely to discontinue banking or they can file complaint with RBI through Ombudsmen, advised Chakravarti.
Elaborating on Banking Ombudsmen, Chakravarti said that Ombudsmen have been established to address the grievances of bank customers. Meanwhile, RBI has been focusing on Banks customers’ policy. Ombudsmen alone will not able to address all the grievances of customers. It can resolve primary issues of customers, while the customers are not allowed to contact Ombudsmen directly. The customers had to contact their respective bank and address their grievances. If the bank fails to resolve the issue within 15 days, then only the customers can approach Banking Ombundsmen, added Chakravarti.
The customers had to be extra vigilant before signing any undertaking with the bank. They ought to read the clauses carefully, and once they are convinced then only they had to sign on the papers. If the problems arise after signing the papers, in that case even RBI would also become helpless, said Chakravarti.
The customers of different banks addressed their grievances with Chakravarti at the occasion.
Corporation Bank managing director Ajay Kumar, CEO Jayaram Bhat, Syndicate Bank managing director M G Sanghvi, A C Mahajan, Vijaya Bank managing director H S Upendra Kamath, Karnataka Banking Ombudsmen Palaniswamy and others were present at the occasion.
