Mangaluru: A group of residents at Car street road held a flash protest agitating over the poor conditions of the road, that have been prevailed for years together.
The demanding instant action – the residents blocked the road for several minutes creating a tense-like situation among the residents and motorists.
Speaking to NewsKarnataka.com – A resident named Janardhan Kudla – who spearheaded the protest as well said, “For the past 6-years not a single construction or even patchwork of the road has been done by the corporation.”
“We have complained to the MCC several times, MLA’s, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake, District in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai and several others. People have made promises however no one has come to our aid”, he said.
When asked for the reason behind this, a furious Janardhan said, “I don’t know the reason of their attitude, probably, because it is an interior road.”
Adding to the details he said that earlier, after several pleas the corporation had promised to redo the road but a contractor duped them and the case lingered in the court. Nevertheless it is only the common man suffering this fight, he added.
The situation of the road is extremely dreadful with potholes, craters, fallen trees, and waterlogged stretches. While the resident have added red mud in a steep pothole and hung a tree right in middle of the road, as women or children regularly fall into it.
Several accidents have also been registered on the road.
However, the traffic police officials were called on the spot and restored the traffic. The residents are scheduled to meet the Deputy Commissioner this evening and demand a relief.
