Sullia: The election model code of conduct is in force in Sullia till May 30 and strict action would be taken against those violating it, said returning officers Devaraj Muthlaje and N Manjunath.

Addressing the media on Saturday, May 11 here, they said the Town Panchayat election would be held on May 29 and counting on May 31. “Each candidate can spend up to Rs 1 Lakh for the election. The candidate has to submit the details of his campaign expenditure every day to the returning officer”, they specified.

“The candidates have to take the permission of the returning officer for any public meetings or putting up their banners or placards. In religious and cultural gatherings, the candidates were not permitted to campaign for the election”, they added.

“The voting would start at 7 AM and end at 5 PM. In all, 20 voting booths will be set up in the 20 wards and 27 EVMs are ready to be installed. Apart from the candidates’ name, photo and symbol, the EVMs would also contain NOTA facility,” said Devaraj.

The candidates can file their nomination till May 16. The nominations would be scrutinised on May 17 and May 20 would be the last date to withdraw the nomination.

On the first two days, no nominations were filed, said Devaraj Muthlaje.

The returning officers were accompanied by other officers on election duty at the press meet.
