Belthangady: The theft case at the residence of Kateel priest Vasudeva Asranna is still unsolved, but the residents of Venoor say that the theft could have been averted, provided the Venoor police had woken up from slumber on time.

As per the local residents a gang had come near Venoor Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, here on October 2 and as per the locals the theft could have been executed by the same gang.

It is said that at about 11 pm, a gang of over ten men had come in a Sumo vehicle near the temple. When a local petty shopkeeper probed if they needed something, the gang members brandished knives and fled the scene. The alert shopkeeper had instantly passed on the message to Venoor police, but the cops reached the spot only at about 12 mid-night, despite the fact that Venoor police station is just one km away from the spot.

The locals who are irked by the attitude of the cops say that the cops have been armed with latest weapons, bullet proof jackets and vehicles, but what is lacking is the will power to deliver their duty diligently.

The angry locals feel that if the police had responded on time and tracked down the Sumo, then the theft at house of Asranna could have been averted.
