Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch Police have successfully nabbed a rowdy-sheeter for injuring an on-duty cop during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Mangaluru on Wednesday by ramming his bike into the officer.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abdul Munir alias Munir(22).
There are presently 10 cases registered against Munir in various city jurisdictions including Mangaluru South, Bajpe, Ullala, Surthkal and Barke police station limits.
The incident occured during the CM’s visit to Mangaluru on October 22, when Mangaluru North Traffic Police Inspector Manjunath and his staff were on duty. Police Inspector Cheluvaraj tried to stop the arrested accused as he was not wearing his helmet while riding. Munir, instead of stopping his bike, rammed it straight into the officer injuring him in the collision, and sped away.
He is also one of the accused in the Ganesh Shetty prison murder case of 2015. He was released on bail three months ago.
