Mangaluru: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has been a topic of discussion in the recent past for its alleged role in communal disruption “Hindutva Politics” and many more. To provide a brief walkthrough on the growth pattern of RSS and a narrative of its mission, a session titled ‘RSS 360–Facts and Vision’ was organised in the Mangalore Lit Festival-2018, here on Saturday, November 3.

The resource person for the session was a freelance columnist, author and editor Ratan Sharda.

Before the session began, Ratan Sharda lauded the efforts of the devotees who stood against the Sabarimala verdict.

He recalled the times when the pontiff of Pejavar Matt, Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji stood as a strong support to RSS and Hindutva.

He said, “In 1968, under the guidance of Pejavar seer, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad was established and a declaration was made saying that all Hindus are sons of one mother and there are brothers, and that there can be no fallen person in Hinduism. This became a revolutionary statement.”

Ratan Sharda said, “I recently visited China where a project with the maximum number of think tanks was being created. The reason to meet them was to flush out all the negative thoughts about the RSS from their minds which possibly they have read on the internet.”

“From 2011 to 2018, one can observe a drastic change in the way people are looking at the RSS”, he added.

Meanwhile, he thanked the media, which he said had played a major role in projecting the RSS positively, contrary to how it was, a couple of years ago.

Speaking on the views and the opinions of the left thinkers on the RSS, Ratan Shrada said, “Unless you put your feet in the mud, you will not know what is in there.”

“The RSS works on the ground to rise high”, he added.

On the question of ban on RSS, he said, “RSS was on the radar to be banned from the time of Nehru, who had once told, ‘Crush RSS’. Yes, Sardar Patel might have told it politically, but later he himself lauded the efforts of the RSS in the way we conducted ourselves.”

“Even the CID and the courts have given clean chit to the organisation”, he added.

On the question of RSS respecting Sardar Patel, he said, “Sardar Patel has said that the RSS is an organization which takes all the communities and religions together. He also questioned what had Congress done for Sardar Patel’s daughter. “Did they allow her to even contest?”, he questioned.

He also claimed that the files pertaining to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination were concealed because the Congress was frightened of its own faults.

Speaking about the RSS principles, Ratan Sharda recalled an incident and said, “A bank clerk who had bought a flat in Mumbai with great difficulty after staying in a rented house for so many years, had accommodated six engineering students and was staying somewhere else.”

“He used to serve tea the students in the morning. This is the principle that the Sangh teaches”, he said.
