Seeding the ‘weed’ costs dear for engineering student!

Mangaluru: An engineering student was arrested by the city police on Wednesday, for alleged cultivation of cannabis on the premises of his house.
 
The arrested accused has been identified as Joshua D’Souza (18) from Munoor village near Mangaluru.
 
According to sources, Inspector Mohammed Sharief led a team of Economic and Narcotic Crime officers and raided the premises of the cannabis enthusiast and found two flower pots with 8 of the illegal plants (weighing 200 gms) in them. These were seized along with 8 gms of cannabis seeds that were allegedly procured by the arrested accused.
 
Uma Prashant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) explained that the cultivation of cannabis is a criminal offence as per the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
 
Prashant said that they were presently trying to find the source of the seeds procured by D’Souza.
