SFI demands cancellation of negative marking system

Mangaluru: Condemning the negative marking system and demanding a quick fix of various issues in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) system, the Dakshina Kannada unit of Student Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest near the DC office here on Wednesday, October 14.
“The negative marking system has been turning out to be a nightmare to about 80,000 ITI students in Karnataka. Due to this, talented students who bear the potential to score over 85 percent have been scoring in mere 60s, which in turn has been affecting their careers immensely”, complained SFI District Convener Nithin Kutthar, adding that the system should be called off immediately.

The other main demands included withdrawal of the currently practiced semester system and implementation of an annual exam system, provision to take re-examination only in the failed division contrary to the existing practice wherein a student is required to take both practical and theory papers on failing in either of them.

Kutthar also put forth demands such as issuing of confirmation certificates soon after completion of the course, replacing the State (SCVT) module with National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and introducing stipend and scholarship programmes to the ITI students.
