Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Rajendra K. V. held a review meeting with the officials about the preparations for SSLC exams, which will commence on Monday, March 28.
To clear up any uncertainty on wearing hijab to exams, the DC said that students in government schools must attend for exams in prescribed school uniforms, as per government orders.
Girls in private schools, on the other hand, can wear hijabs if it is permitted as part of their school uniforms, he said, adding that BEOs have been asked to notify exam centres where girls will be taking exams while wearing hijabs.
President of the Federation of Muslim Educational Institutions Moosabba Beary said that such girls must present a letter signed by the Headmaster of the school concerned about authorising hijabs to officials at the examination centres.
Special vehicles have been arranged for students commuting from neighbouring Kasaragod due to the two-day nationwide strike called by the unions on March 28 and 29, said DC.
